Leadership Development

CBTL's Leadership Development programme moves young people from stabilisation to contribution — building agency, responsibility and the capacity to lead within school, community and beyond.

Rooted in lived experience and delivered through relational mentoring, this programme doesn't just teach leadership concepts. It builds leaders from the inside out.

Developing Practical Leadership Skills

CBTL's Leadership Development programme is grounded in one core belief — that every young person has the capacity to lead, once the barriers of trauma, instability and chronic adversity are removed.

Delivered through structured mentoring, group development and real-world responsibility, the programme builds the skills young people need to lead themselves, their peers and their communities.

Our approach is unique because it starts where young people actually are — not where we wish they were. Lived experience is at the heart of every session, creating authentic connection and genuine engagement from the outset.

Communication & Voice

Young people develop verbal and non-verbal communication skills — learning to express themselves clearly, listen actively and engage constructively in difficult conversations.

Decision-Making & Responsibility

Structured reflection and real-world scenarios help young people develop the ability to make informed, responsible choices — understanding the impact of their decisions on themselves and others.

Accountability & Identity

Young people develop a stronger sense of self and take ownership of their actions — rebuilding identity, reinforcing responsibility and stepping into leadership with confidence.

From Challenge to Capability

Every young person on this programme begins with a baseline assessment. From there, they move through structured stages — regulation, responsibility, and leadership — at a pace that reflects their individual development.

Progress is relational, not just measurable. Young people are supported by consistent adults who know them, challenge them and believe in their capacity to lead.

The CBTL Approach

CBTL's leadership programme is trauma-informed, relationally consistent and outcome-focused. We begin by understanding each young person's history, strengths and barriers — then build a structured pathway that moves them from crisis or disengagement toward stability, leadership and meaningful contribution.

Sessions combine structured reflection, peer group work, mentoring and practical leadership tasks. Young people don't sit and listen — they lead, reflect, make decisions and take responsibility in real time.

Lived Experience at the Core

What makes CBTL different is that our work is grounded in authentic lived experience. We understand the environments these young people come from — gang pressure, community instability, school exclusion, criminal justice exposure — because we have navigated those environments ourselves.

That authenticity creates trust. And trust is where leadership development actually begins.

Why Choose CBTL?

CBTL's Leadership Development programme is trauma-informed, relationally consistent and outcome-focused — built around the young person's actual experience, not a generic curriculum.
